Small Engine start Module.

Christie Engineering has now developed an economically priced automatic start module to compliment any of the small electric start Honda petrol, and basically any diesel stationary engine. The unit is fully microcontroller based and incorporates relay outputs to control ignition, starter motor and electric choke solenoid which comes with the module along with mounting hardware and instructions. The existing Honda loom is simply broken at the “bullet” connectors on the side of the motor and our loom plugged straight in. The unit can be triggered by a mains fail relay, water level trigger in the case of a pump and many other applications including our own DC battery charger application where a solar regulator “generator start” output can be used to trigger.

The module can also be easily adapted and used on the Hatz and Yanmar type diesel charging systems as well with a simple change in the program to suit the diesel engine.

Christie Engineering start module runs through a starter sequence where the ignition is enabled along with glow plugs on a diesel, and then the starter is enabled along with the choke solenoid (Honda). The choke remains on for a set time after the starter has stopped. The unit then monitors if the engine is running from the ignition pulse output from the motor. If the pulse is not detected the motor will go on and attempt restarts a further three times. If the motor fails to start an alarm indicator will flash red on the front of the unit. This will also light when the engine stops during the run cycle due to low fuel and oil cut-out or over temp where available.
The unit can also be fully overridden if a manual start is required by the three position toggle switch on the front panel of the unit into “manual” position.
Inputs on the unit are also optically isolated to prevent damage to the circuit in the event of a voltage spike or incorrect wiring by a customer.
